The Charger Girls: Memorable in Their Own Right
You have to feel a bit sorry for the Charger Girls. For starters, they deserve sympathy because your first response is probably, “the Charger Who?” And secondly, they're always playing second banana to someone. When it comes to the excitement at a San Diego Chargers football game, quite naturally, most people are more interested in the football players than the lady dancers. And secondly, even when you start thinking about the female performers at NFL games, your first thought is doubtless of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Click Here to Read More

And yet, the Charger Girls are memorable in their own right. They are every bit as talented as the Cowboy Cheerleaders—but with their own unique moves. They are, after all, not mere cheerleaders, but professional dancers.
So let's talk about this talented troupe. The Charger Girls are produced by Olmstead Productions and are the San Diego Chargers' official dance team. Founded in 1990, the Charger girls have become the premiere dance team in the National Football League. Currently, 28 professional entertainers, college students and career women make up the team.
Even though being a Charger Girl is just a part-time position, the members must devote much hard work and time to their role on the team. The Charger girls are also considered official representatives of the overall San Diego Chargers organization and take active roles in their communities. This includes work with charitable groups. Charger girls donate time to nonprofit organizations such as the Make-a-wish Foundation, Junior Seau Foundation, American Diabetes Association,, Children's Hospital, D.A.R.E, and many others. The team has traveled extensively across the country and around the world. Some of their international destinations have included Sydney, Australia; Berlin, Germany; and Tokyo, Japan.
Due to their immense popularity, the Charger girls have made numerous appearances on TV shows, both local and national. They have also been rated by SPORT MAGAZINE as “Best Cheerleaders in the NFL” (That's right, topping even the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders).
The Charger Girls are managed and produced by the e2k organization. Although the general public is mostly unaware of the organization, e2k is considered THE elite sports entertainment production companies, possibly in America, but definitely on the West Coast. They have produced, in addition to the Charger Girls, nine NBA and NFL dance teams (for teams such as the 49ers, Los angeles Clippers, and others). Since the early 1990s, e2k has also directed and produced the NFL Pro Bowl Cheer Squad, as well as producing tours in Japan, Austria and Mexico—tours consisting of professional NFL and NBA dancers and cheerleaders. The Wall Street Journal profiled e2k in 2004 for producing the Czech republic's first professional dance team.
On top of all of this, e2k has also produced more than 400 halftime shows, and spectaculars for the PRO BOWL, the Olympics, the Super Bowl and the World Cup. They also serve as the NFL's game-enchancement consulting company and work closely with some of the world's best known choreographers.
The Team Director for the Charger girls is Lisa Simmons. She was named the Charger girls' Director following her own turn at cheering for three years with the team. During her three years as a Charger Girl, from 2002 to 2004, Lisa was team captain and also chosen to represent the dance team in 2005 at the Hawaii Pro Bowl. In addition to her role as Team Director, Lisa works with e2k Sports as an associate producer. She has choreographed events and numbers for many dance teams and cheerleading squads, both at the professional and collegiate level. These groups included the Gold Rush Cheerleaders of the San Francisco 49ers.
Lisa was formerly a member of an award-winning team of dancers from San Diego State University. At the university, in addition to her dance roles, Lisa graduated with a B.A. In Sociology.
Lisa started dancing professionally while she was still in high school at Riverside, California. Her first dance class was at an even younger age, when she had barely turned five years old. She started training as a cheerleader at ten years of age. Prior to Lisa's appointment to the role of Charger Girls' Team Director, she worked as a business owner and sales consultant. Of course, we can't finish a profile of the Charger Girls without talking about the role of maria Giannini. Maria is the Vice President of Sports Entertainment for e2k Sports.
In addition to her work with the Charger Girls, Maria has previously directed halftime shows for the American Bowls in Australia (for the NFL)--shows which included entertainers such as 98 Degrees, N'Sync, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sugar Ray, and Jessica Simpson. Maria also produced the Thanksgiving Halftime Shows for the 2003 and 04 Detroit Lions, which featured Wyclef Jean, Mary J. Bilge and John Mellencamp.
Maria also directed the retirement ceremony that ABC broadcast in honor of John Elway as well as Dan Marino's on ESPN. She has also served for the past six years as director for the NFL's Pro Bowl cheerleaders. Together these ladies put together one of the finest shows available in the NFL.
